When I was a teenager poetry use to flow from me as thought I was constantly inspired (or maybe possessed). As most teenagers I was full of emotion and confused. Poetry was an outlet, some of it very dark and some of it upbeat and lively. Most just a way of expressing how I was feeling and finding a way to talk to myself and understand what I was going through.
But within all my poetry I would take time to make people smile. I knew I was sad, or angry many days but to the best way for me to smile was to give away a smile. I would sit up at night and right a poem, work carefully on the words to express appreciation but not come off as a stalker. Then the next day at school I would pick a random locker and slip the poem into the locker signed anonymous. I would walk away without looking back, later in the day I would try to wonder by to see if it had worked. When I did see the person reading it they would read the paper, look around with a smile and tuck the note back into their locker.
A simple smile can bring the world together. No matter who we are simply smiling at someone can lift their spirits and bring a peaceful warmth.
